Discovering the Hidden Treasures of the Library of Congress’ Chinese Holdings
The Library of Congress Asian Division Friends Society (ADFS) is pleased to announce a special, free tour pertaining to Chinese holdings. On Wednesday 18 April 2007 at 10:00 a.m., Jeffrey Wang will offer a special tour of collections pertaining to China at the Library of Congress. Conducted in both English and Chinese, the tour will begin on the ground level of the majestic and historic Jefferson Building located at 10 First Street SE. It will then proceed to the Asian Division reading room where Dr. Wang will discuss the history of the Asian Division’s Chinese collection and showcase the richness of the collection to the participants. While the entire spectrum of the Chinese collections will be discussed, special attention will be given to the South Manchuria Railroad collections. This collection was brought to Washington by General Douglas Macarthur’s forces after WWII and lay unused in the Library of Congress until Dr. Wang began cataloging it in 2005. The tour will then proceed to the Geography and Map Division to examine Chinese cartographic materials.
The tours are free and open to the public but pre-registration is required. To register call Dr. Wang at (202) 707-2932.
This tour is a program of the Asian Division Friends Society. For more information about the Society and its other programs, please see: www.lcasianfriends.org
